I'm AliciaI was born an artist. Mermaids were my first subjects. I can remember obsessively drawing them, over and over, unknowingly beginning my journey in art. As early as kindergarten, I recall compulsively exploring my intrinsic understanding of color theory, being more obsessed with getting my finger paintings "right" than my peers. As a child, it was not uncommon to see my art hanging in special places throughout my classrooms, or framed in the homes of family members. Like Annie Lee, I thought faces looked better without noses, and I somehow managed to continually turn average homework assignments into complex art projects.
Being creative is a deeply personal experience for every artist. In my story, creating art kept me busy on a regular basis for five years, while I witnessed my mother battle ovarian cancer; As I waited in the cancer center during my mother's chemotherapy and radiation treatments. And, at age eleven, art comforted me when she passed away. |
In junior high, I began commissioned caricatures and by high school, had progressed to realism. Growing up in Los Angeles, surrounded by the presence of Hollywood, it was only a matter of time before I discovered that I could make a living behind the scenes of film productions, designing and decorating film sets. I find production work enjoyable, however, fulfilling the creative desires of other people inspired me to respect and explore the vastness of my own artistic ideas even more. Since becoming a full-time painter, I’ve sold works to private and corporate collections. My journey as an artist has taken me from film sets, to art walks, galleries, art festivals, and even painting live on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and in various performance venues around Los Angeles. My aspirations are abundant, and I continue to juggle various projects, including commissions; as well as regularly exhibiting my work in galleries, and art festivals around the country. |
